Independent Games Festival Opens 2009 Submissions

The Independent Games Festival (IGF) is now accepting submissions for its 2009 competition. The deadline for submissions is November 2008, with finalists to be announced January 5, 2009. The prizes will be awarded at the Independent Games Festival Awards, which takes place next March as part of the 2009 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, Calif.

The Independent Games Festival is now in its 11th year. The participants of the event compete for nearly US$50,000 in prizes, including special awards excellence in design and the $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize. This year a new award will be presented for innovation, honoring abstract, short form and unconventional game experiences.

Past winners have included Everyday Shooter, Audiosurf and World of Goo.
