Mozilla has released an update to Firefox, its popular Web browser. The update is available for download either from the Firefox Web site or through Firefox itself, if you select "Check for Updates" from the Help menu.

Firefox 3.0.1 corrects a Mac OS X-specific issue involving malformed GIF files. The security issue, announced earlier this week, was identified by a member of Apple Product Security. Two other critical security issues were also identified and corrected in this update.

Also new in this update are several stability improvements, improvements to the phishing and malware database, and other changes.

Firefox 3 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
